Ammo

Admiralty

The Asia Society’s tucked away bar and restaurant is a dependable option for an evening drink or two

Far removed from the usual drinking districts of Central and Wan Chai, Ammo is the perfect antidote to the debauched style of imbibing all too commonly found in busier areas. Hidden inside Asia Society in Admiralty, Ammo is a bar and restaurant that lends itself nicely – despite its diminutive size – to post- or pre-prandial drinks. There are some low booths along the windows which look over greenery, high stools at the bar and around a large marbled communal table in the centre of the room. Thoughtful staff hand out bag hooks, a nice touch. Recently, Ammo revamped their cocktail menu and the selections are enticing in their complexity and variety, though we do feel that on paper most of the drinks seem to err on the fruity or sweet side. But we enjoyed our super chilled Southside cocktail, a combination of Hendricks gin, cucumber, mint, lime and sugar, which managed to be potent and refreshing at the same time. An Old Fashioned looked more on the weak side. We also enjoy the complimentary bar nibbles of fat, briny olives and marinated garlic cloves. While not explosive, Ammo is a sound option if you’re in the area.
