There are some restaurants that seem custom made to celebrate special occasions—and Hutong, with its knockout harbour views, stunning décor and distinctive menu of Northern Chinese cuisine is one of them. Located on the 28th floor of One Peking Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, the restaurant’s design is elaborately detailed, with red lanterns, ornate antique furniture and hanging birdcages all adding to the atmosphere; nevertheless, the iconic glittering view remains the real star, showcased in its full glory through floor-to-ceiling windows. The menu excites too, featuring many Chinese dishes you will not find elsewhere, all presented beautifully. The majority of dishes hit the mark, with beautifully fresh razor clams in Chinese rose wine and decadent crispy glutinous rice dumplings with gooey rich chocolate centres clear winners. The wine list is extensive, with Chinese aged varieties for the more adventurous, although it veers on the pricier side (there are no bottles under $500). Service is excellent, with attentive staff showing a clear understanding of the menu; with many spicy dishes on offer, they are happy to advise and accommodate to your heat preference.
