Jazz, elegance and the art of seduction – Salon de Ning is a place to while away the hours as you listen to music and dance with your love of the night

Sultrily tucked away in the basement of The Peninsula, Salon de Ning is named after a fictional 1930s Shanghai socialite. The lush interiors are modelled after her abode and jet-setting destinations—think retro-luxe art deco, with rooms resembling a sophisticated boudoir, an African safari tent, a Moroccan alcove and a Swiss chalet, complete with faux fireplace. Go for a cocktail that matches the decor (such as King of the Jungle or Alpine Royalty) or opt for the refreshing signature cocktail, the Ning Sling—Absolut Mandarin vodka and Kwai Feh lychee liqueur fused with passionfruit purée and fresh mint. Champagnes go well with the homemade lobster crackers, which pack a briny umami crunch. For more substantial snacking, feast on the delicious grilled bone-ham Gruyère sandwiches or pan-fried Maryland crab cakes with citrus mousseline. The house band performs at 9pm, with a range of tunes from upbeat, soulful pop classics to smooth jazz.
