International fare fit for the whole family can be found at this trendy establishment

Set high above Central in the new California Tower, Townhouse is a trendy gathering spot that is popular amongst young professionals and families. During the day, the large glass windows allow natural light to flood the space, while in the evening, guests may watch the twinkling lights glimmer on the city streets below. An open kitchen and bar area invites guests to get a view of all the action, and the comfortably spaced seating allows for a relaxed dining experience, although we found the pumping club beats to be too intense at times.

Dishes here are made for sharing, with menu items covering international cuisines. The garlic baked clams, topped with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, are fresh and sweet, allowing the natural flavours of the ocean to take centre stage. The kitchen’s take on the Caesar salad includes a fried runny egg and spider jumbo soft-shell crab – ingredients that work well together, enhancing an ordinarily no-frills dish. Pizza options are conveniently sliced and plated to ensure that no toppings are left behind. The spicy salami and tomato pizza is a true comfort dish, although we would have preferred more of a kick from the salami. The flavourful Singapore-style noodles feature red lobster, Serrano ham, goose liver and homemade curry with stir-fried vermicelli, which provides a different experience with each mouthful dependent upon what ingredients you get, and is elevated with a squeeze of lime. Dessert options are varied, but we enjoyed the banana and chocolate crepe with coconut, a satisfying combination that rarely disappoints, although we found the coconut to be mysteriously absent.

Although there are wine options from various regions available here, there is a distinct focus on cocktails, including both classic favourites and signature Townhouse creations. The ‘First Night’ is a light and refreshing tipple, with gin, peach liqueur, fresh lemongrass, grapefruit bitters, elderflower syrup and fresh egg white.

The young staff could brush up on their knowledge of the menu, but overall service is friendly and efficient.

A filling meal for two including a drink each will cost approximately HK$800 – a fair value given the prime location, trendy atmosphere, and stunning views.
