Delicate Japanese cuisine is beautifully executed in this lofty hotel setting

As befitting the Hotel Okura’s flagship restaurant, the standard of cooking and service is authentically Japanese. The zen-like space is light and airy, overlooking the Galaxy Macau complex and its many swimming pools; the decor is minimalistic and designed to instill a sense of calm through neutral wood tones. The menu at Yamazato is strong on seasonal and regional Japanese ingredients, so that the offerings will shift according to the time of year you visit. In autumn, an exceptional Kyoto-themed kaiseki menu offered delights such as a soup of pike conger eel and tiger shrimp served in a dobin tea pot, or grilled Spanish mackerel with eringi mushrooms on cedar sheets. The sake pairing option is a must, as staff are highly versed in the various tasting notes and idiosyncracies of each label. Sashimi and sushi are of an exceptional standard, and cooked dishes are equally enthralling. Desserts are simple, usually consisting of high quality Japanese fruit and small sweets such as chestnut yokan, served with bowls of freshly whisked matcha. A high quality experience reflecting true Japanese hospitality.
