Adrian Cheng Named First Global Ambassador Of The CFDA
It’s an exciting time to be Adrian Cheng as the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) has just been named the first global ambassador with a mandate to support American designers as they seek growth for their brands overseas.
The ambassadorship will run for four years and places Cheng at the helm of establishing a series of international programmes and scholarships designed to roadmap new business models and create cross-cultural dialogue between American designers with retail and commercial counterparts in Asia.
With a business portfolio that spans hospitality, art, design, fashion distribution, jewellery and property development, Cheng is poised to be an apt ambassador for American designers and brands to better navigate the Asian market and the need for businesses to be globally savvy.

“As we look at our work with CFDA and understand the importance of globalisation and the ability of business, it helps us to have people who are on the ground and have the knowledge and experience and interest in working with American designers,” said Steven Kolb, president and executive chief and executive officer of CFDA.
Four pillars will lay the foundation for Cheng’s programmes, focusing on specific stages: student designers, postgraduate designers, a launch pad for emerging designers and a retail lab for established designers. Each programme will nurture American brands and designers, providing a platform to be immersed in the Asian market and providing valuable insights into the individual Asian consumer.
Speaking on the nature of his programmes and its processes, Cheng says, “I’m particularly taken by the CFDA’s dedication to incubating the next generation of designers. My vision is to really enrich consumers’ daily lives through the power of innovation, creativity and culture, and most importantly, bridging the East and West of the world and building a bigger platform for CFDA, so the talents can have a global platform.”
