Esquel Group's Dee Poon has been recognised for her work in sustainable fashion

Tatler 500 lister Dee Poon has been honoured at the China Fashion Gala 2019, an annual event that honours outstanding fashion icons and brands for their efforts in shaping China’s fashion industry on the global stage.

Held this year on May 1 in New York, the event was curated and hosted by New York-based China Institute and Yue-Sai Kan China Beauty Charity Fund (CBCF).

Dee's work

As one of the pioneering sustainability advocates in the fashion industry, Dee has made a remarkable contribution to Chinese design and innovation leading her brand, PYE, the retail arm of the Esquel Group.

With a mission to increase the industry and consumers’ awareness about sustainable production methods, Dee strives to position PYE as an intelligent brand that delivers quality without compromising sustainability.

With full control of every step in the production process, from cottonseed research to product retailing, PYE has recently introduced packaging with a tote bag or a shirt bad made of reclaimed cotton, creating a one-stop solution for the environment and customers.

Dee also speaks regularly to Esquel leadership and at industry gatherings about ways to incorporate sustainable action into their businesses.

Gala awardees

Other honourees at the gala included Chinese-Canadian designer and artist Jason Wu with the Leadership Award, editor in chief of Vogue China, Angelica Cheung, with the Leadership Award, actress Shu Qi with the Icon Award and skincare brand Shanghai Pechoin Group with the Legacy Award.

Crazy Rich Asians' actress Gemma Chan also made an appearance in a dazzling silver ruffled gown designed by MarkGong Studio.
