Cha will be the first woman to chair the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing in its 127-year history

As reported on Risk.net, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) has named Laura Cha the next chair of the board. Rumours had been swirling prior to this announcement, which will mark the first time a woman has chaired the stock exchange operator in its 127-year history.

Laura, a Tatler 500 lister featured on our list of Hong Kong's 15 most powerful women, is currently a non-official member of the Executive Council, chairman of the Financial Services Development Council, and an independent non-executive director of HSBC Holdings and Unilever.

Her appointment has been approved by the chief executive of Hong Kong SAR (Carrie Lam). Laura will serve as chair for the next two years, succeeding CK Chow in his current role. She will also take over as director of the London Metal Exchange from CK Chow, who has decided to retire.
