The Hong Kong Ballet is turning back time with this month’s fundraising benefit, choosing the Beatles as its theme. Here, four ambassadors of the ballet reveal what they’re most looking forward to at the groovy event

I actually love classic ’60s music and my favourite Beatles songs are "Hey Jude" and "My Girl". I’ve been a supporter of the Hong Kong Ballet since I was a child. My mother [Flora Zeta Cheong-Leen] was a ballerina and a long standing board member, so I hope to continue her legacy. I’m passionate about educating and inspiring children from all walks of life, and raising funds for the ballet means many children will have opportunities that may have been unavailable to them before.

The miniskirts and all the funky colours are my favourite ’60s fashion trends, and I love any excuse to dress up, so I’m planning to put a lot of effort into my outfit for this year’s benefit. I still remember when my sister Natalie and I helped Auntie Daisy at the Hong Kong Ballet Ball in 2013. We loved every minute of it. Whenever Auntie Daisy asks, I say yes without hesitation.

3. Beatrice Ho

I’ve always been an avid fan and follower of the ballet. As a child, I took ballet lessons at the Carol Bateman School of Dancing, and I have so much respect for ballerinas and their poise, perseverance and talent. I’m looking forward to this year’s benefit because I’m happy to support my mother [Daisy Ho, the executive chairwoman of the Hong Kong Ballet Board] and to have the chance to dress up in the style of my favourite ’60s fashion icons, Brigitte Bardot and Twiggy.

Although ballet is for people of all ages to enjoy, I find that the younger generations overlook the precision and patience that goes into being a ballerina, so I’m hoping that, as ambassadors, we’re able to shine a new light on the craft. I look forward to dressing up and getting ready with my friends, and singing along to my favourite Beatles songs.
