The qualified lawyer and yoga instructor – and a keen collector of comics show us how it's done

“I began reading the X-Men comics in my teens and was particularly drawn to the strong, alpha female characters such as Storm, who at one point loses her mutant powers but manages to take down Cyclops to become the undisputed leader of the X-Men. The story makes you believe that even without the X-gene, you could be a hero too. When beginning a collection, it’s best to focus on a single character or team, or to follow particular creators, writers or artists. Have a subscription to ensure you don’t miss any in the sequence, and ensure that you bag and board your comics—store them in a plastic sleeve with a thin board to give the comics a firm backing—so they’re protected from denting and curling, and store them vertically, not flat. Old comics in mint condition are rare, but it takes a few decades for issues to appreciate in value, so look after them. Keep an open mind and be willing to expose yourself to different genres that may surprise you. Enjoy discovering a new universe and, above all, have fun.” - Yuda Chan
