The singer-songwriter was in tears after she was awarded in front of over 12,000 people

Karen Mok has been in the entertainment industry for over 25 years, and her career is still reaching new heights.

On October 12, Karen set a Guinness World Record for hosting the highest altitude concert at the Lhasa Masses Culture & Sports Centre in Tibet, which is 3,654m above sea level.

The singer-songwriter was in tears when Guinness World Records officials awarded her with a certificate after her performance, which was part of her final concert tour ending in December.

“Today is the day when dreams come true,” said Karen at her concert attended by over 12,000 people, reports the BusinessMirror. “I seldom cry on the stage, but today is really an extraordinary experience. I have always dreamed of having a concert here. Thank you all for accompanying me to complete this challenge.”

Singing at such heights had its difficulties for her and the concert crew, who had to follow a strict diet to prevent altitude sickness. But the sacrifices were worth the reward for Karen, who was still on cloud nine days after her performance.

"This is a new milestone in my singing career and I want to share this exciting and precious moment with all the fans," the singer-songwriter later wrote on Weibo, reports The Straits Times

Earlier this year, the Tatler Lister announced that The Ultimate Karen Mok Show will be her final concert tour, but she’s not leaving the limelight. She told Reuters that she plans to bring Broadway-style musicals to China.

“It doesn’t mean that I’m retiring or anything...I could never quit the stage but I just feel that it’s a good time to call it a day where pop concerts are concerned,” she told Reuters in July. “My next big mission in my career is to create, from scratch, a musical for the Chinese audience. I really love musicals because they allow you to simultaneously act, dance, sing and play music and getting to do it live every evening is just amazing...We should have our own original musicals.”
