The Duchess of Sussex's arrival came two days after Kate Middleton attended to watch Williams play

Meghan Markle may be on maternity leave from her royal duties after giving birth to her son Archie in May, but that didn’t stop her from making a surprise appearance at Wimbledon to support her friend Serena Williams.

The Duchess of Sussex showed up on Thursday to support Williams’ second-round match against Kaja Juvan, which Williams won, People reports. Meghan’s appearance came two days after her sister-in-law Kate Middleton attended to watch Williams play.

The tennis star and Meghan’s first met at the 2010 Super Bowl in Miami, and they’ve been close ever since. Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian attended the American actresses’ wedding to Prince Harry in May. Meanwhile Williams also threw a baby shower for Meghan in New York City last February.

Known for her sleek and understated style, the Duchess’ courtside fashion at Wimbledon caused a social media sensation. Page Six reports that Meghan sported a L’Agence pinstripe linen blazer, skinny jeans and a black T-shirt from Lavender Hill Clothing. She also honoured her family by wearing a diamond “A” pendant necklace for Archie, who will be christened this weekend.
