Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey wins second silver medal at the 100m freestyle event at Tokyo Olympics 2020, becoming Hong Kong's first athlete to win multiple medals at the Olympics
Hong Kong Olympics swimmer Siobhan Haughey has won silver for Hong Kong yet again in the 100m freestyle event this morning, becoming Hong Kong’s first-ever athlete to win multiple medals at the Olympics.
Setting another Asian record at 52.27, Haughey finished just 0.31 seconds behind gold medalist, Emma McKeon who represented Australia. Bronze went to Australia’s Cate Campbell, clocking in at 52.52.
In a post-race interview, Haughey, who was still catching her breath, said “I feel very touched by all the support around me. If I didn’t have my coach’s guidance I would have not been able to succeed.”

The win came just a few days after her historic silver medal victory at the women’s 200m freestyle event on Wednesday where she clocked in 1:53.92, falling just 0.42 seconds behind Australia’s Ariarne Titmus. After her 200m win, the Hong Kong women's swim team pulled out of the freestyle relay race so that Haughey would be able to concentrate on the 100m freestyle contest this morning.
All eyes are focused on Hong Kong fencer and gold medalist winner, Cheung Ka-long and double silver swimmer Siobhan Haughey as the athletes make history for Hong Kong. The city’s spirits are at an all-time high with Hong Kong athletes bagging a total of three Olympic medals in Tokyo Olympics 2020—the city’s first multiple medal win in history.
