Tatler 500 lister Sunny Tan isn't just a successful Hong Kong businessman—he's also a devoted father of two boys with his wife Esther Sham. As part of our October 'How To' series, we asked him to share his top tips on how to be a 21st-century dad:

1. There’s no such thing as quality time. Quantity time is what’s important. Spend as much time with your children as possible.

2. Help out with changing the diapers. Little things like that really build the relationship.

3. Don’t use work as an excuse. If I have a business dinner, I’ll rush home first to spend a little bit of time with my boys. Even if it’s just 30 minutes, it’s worth it.

4. Make everyday activities fun. We’ve found a supermarket where there are small shopping carts for children, which my boys love.

5. Storytelling is important. I love the Oxford Reading Tree series with Biff, Chip and Kipper. We read those books to them before they go to sleep.

6. At meal times, turn everything off. No phones, no TV, nothing.
