With wedding season fast approaching, here are five things to be mindful of when choosing your outfit as a wedding guest

1/5Respect the dress code

Many wedding invitations will include a dress code. Some are definitive such as 'black tie' or 'formal', while others will have a more vague dressing requirement, such as tropical chic (for beach weddings) or even a colour theme. It’s important to respect the dress code provided by the bride and groom so you don't stick out like a sore thumb.

2/5Dress for the environment

While city weddings are relatively easy to dress for, destination weddings can be a little trickier. Before you start packing your bags, check the local weather forecast to make sure you won’t be sweating or freezing. A breezy dress would be great for a beach wedding, while a long sleeved evening dress would be perfect for somewhere in the mountains.

3/5Wear sensible shoes

While footwear can seemingly make or break your outfit, it’s also important to keep in mind the environmental factors. Can you dance in sky-high heels? Will you get stuck in the sand with a pair of stilettos? Or will there be lots of walking involved to get to the wedding venue?

Block heels tend to work best on grass, flat sandals (or even barefoot) for the beach, and if you’re breaking in a new pair of heels—we suggest bringing along a couple of bandaids to ensure you’re fully prepared for the night ahead.

4/5Don’t steal the spotlight

It may seem like an obvious piece of advice, but it's important not to draw too much attention to yourself when attending the nuptials of close friends or family. Obvious ways to avoid this would be to steer clear of all-white ensembles, or anything too over-the-top.

5/5Don't forget to accessorise

Sure, you’ve got the dress for the occasion, but it’s also equally important to have the right finishing touches. For those travelling to hot climates, a paper fan, sunglasses or wide-brimmed hat are must-haves for nuptials under the sun, while an overcoat, sensible outerwear or scarf would be ideal for cooler weddings.
