Here are five things you need to know about this eye-catching timepiece

Van Cleef & Arpels has always produced beautiful watches, but the Charms Romance Parisienne Retrouvailles is something else altogether. It’s one of three timepieces that document an unfolding love story set in the heart of Paris, and its champlevé enamel dial depicts a gentleman giving his sweetheart a bouquet of flowers. The young couple meet in Place Vendôme, the epicentre of exceptional jewellery, under a miniature-painted, moonlit sky surrounded by sapphires, mother-of-pearl and rows of diamonds.

1. White Gold

Part of the Extraordinary Dials collection, the Charms Romance Parisienne Retrouvailles watch comes in a 32mm white-gold case, which features a whitegold bezel, crown and rotating charm. The miniature painting’s column, balcony and figures are also sculpted from white gold, ensuring that this wristwatch is made with only the most luxurious materials available.

2. 244

Weighing a total of 1.3 carats, 244 round-cut diamonds encircle the dial in rows and adorn the rotating charm to allow for maximum sparkle when light catches the wearer’s wrist.

3. Champlevé Enamel

Champlevé is a technique in which artisans cut troughs or cells into metal plates, which are then filled with decorative enamel.

4. Place Vendôme

In 1906, Van Cleef & Arpels became one of the first jewellers to settle in Place Vendôme, a Parisian square designed in the 18th century. The original boutique sat directly opposite the opulent Hôtel Ritz, which attracted Russian and European aristocrats who would shop at the luxury boutique.

5. 1.2

Forty round sapphires, in various shades of blue, weighing a total of 1.2 carats decorate the Charms Romance Parisienne Retrouvailles.
