Amazon To Open New London Beauty Salon––Featuring Technology To Make Deciding On A New Hairstyle Easier Than Ever
Amazon has this week announced its—rather surprising—plans to open a new brick and mortar hair salon in London. The world’s largest e-commerce retailer is set to open a two-storey, 1,500 sq.ft. salon fully equipped with augmented reality hair consultations and point-and-learn technology allowing customers to “try on” different styles before making a decision.
Within the “creative area,” customers will be able to experiment with different virtual hair colours and styles and capture their preferred look on Amazon Fire tablets before moving forward with a physical cut or colour.
“We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the industry,” John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager at Amazon explained in a press release. “We want this unique venue to bring us one step closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.”
Located on Brushfield Street in London’s Spitalfields, the Amazon Salon is expected to offer the best in hair care and styling by way of Elena Lavagni, owner of Neville Hair & Beauty, and her team of expert stylists.
“I am delighted to be part of this project—the salon combines classic hairdressing services with technology to deliver a completely unique experience for clients,” shared Lavagni. “Our creative team of stylists, whose flair for hair is as intrinsic as their love for technology, will put the client at the heart of everything they do. I feel proud to use our 40 years’ experience in the industry to help bring this salon to life.”
In true Amazon fashion, the salon will also showcase a selection of the top-selling professional hair care products, where clients will be able to point at the product they’re interested in and receive relevant information on a display screen. Customers will then be able to order products by scanning the relevant QR code, which will bring them to the Amazon website with the option to buy.
Interested in testing out the new, high tech hair care centre? The Amazon Salon will only be open to Amazon employees in London to start—but will open to bookings for the general public within the next month or so.
