The collaborative effort between Ambush, Nike and the NBA delivers Ambush signature detailing and fresh styling to female hoop fans

Yoon Ahn, co-founder of Ambush is the first female designer to partner with Nike and the National Basketball Association (NBA). And in this unprecedented collaborative project, Yoon delivers an energetic attitude, signature Ambush details and new styling dedicated to female basketball fans.

"The project began with a conversation about making women feel proud to represent their favourite teams," says Yoon. "We were considering how to balance the culture of the sport without losing the style," she adds.

Yoon drew inspiration from her multi-dimensional and multi-disciplinary point-of-view and reimagined Los Angeles Lakers, the 2020 champions and Brooklyn Nets apparel.

"I thought of all these amazing and strong female characters from the '90s who would come out in men's clothes and I wanted to see how we could carry that attitude but bring in more feminine form," she says.

For this collection, Yoon specifically transforms the archetypal tearaway basketball warm-up pant into a seasonally-appropriate, insulated trouser complete with a playful, contrast-colour double waistband. The result is a look that creates a seamless uniform appeal with a set of form-fitting, long-sleeve tops that pay homage to the classic NBA jersey aesthetics.

Completing the apparel is the Ambush approach to the iconic Nike Dunk. Here, Yoon channels Japanese bike, car and truck culture, giving the show an elongated and heightened form, with Swooshes (the Nike logo) extending beyond the heel-like bike pipes.

"I thought, 'How can I make the shoes almost look like this moving thing?'", says Yoon.

The final look is arresting, and compliments the entire collection, showcasing the opportunities that lie ahead for sharing new perspectives and creative expressions in the basketball culture.

The Nike x Ambush x NBA collection drops December 11 on Nike's official website and selected retail stores. Meanwhile, the Nike x Ambush Dunk releases on November 12 on the same website, with a lucky draw only. Submission starts from December 8. Please visit the official website for more details.
