The trailblazer in facial cleansing brushes, Clarisonic, is closing down next month and discontinuing the production of its replacement brush heads. Here are five other facial cleansing and exfoliating devices to try instead
If you haven't heard by now, Clarisonic, the OG facial cleansing device, will be shutting down effective from September 30 this year. A trailblazer for beauty devices in its category, Clarisonic's devices––with its oscillating brush heads––transformed skincare for many at home, with famous fans including Cate Blanchett, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Oprah touting its prowess in facial cleansing and massage in the early days. However, as skincare trends steer towards nurturing your skin rather than over-exfoliation, Clarisonic failed to keep up with its consumers, falling behind its younger competitors instead.
A representative from L’Oreal, which acquired Clarisonic in 2011, told WWD: “This difficult decision was made so that L’Oréal can focus its attention on its other core business offerings.”
Clarisonic announced its closure via its social media channels on July 15, offering a storewide 50 per cent discount while supplies last. Most of its devices and device attachments have since been sold out, which means existing Clarisonic users may face a problem replacing their brush heads––which are recommended to be changed every three months.
But don't worry, we've scoured Clarisonic's competitors to scope out the best facial cleansing brushes to replace it. Here are five other facial cleansing and exfoliating devices to try instead:
1. LG BCJ1 Pra.L Dual Cleanser
LG BCJ1 Pra.L Dual Cleanser offers a solution for all skin types and needs. There are three different brushes depending on skin type–– pink for daily cleansing, yellow for deep cleansing and grey for oily skin and exfoliation––plus two different modes for either gentle or deep cleansing.
The device uses micro-vibrations to thoroughly clean your skin of dirt, oil, and grime, which helps to reduce dead skin cells, blackheads, and improve the appearance of pores. The best part? The Dual Cleanser is completely waterproof (with an IPX7 rating) so you can simply use it in the shower with your favourite facial cleanser. It also comes with a docking cradle that sanitises the brush with UV light when not in use––which scores major points for ease of cleaning and hygiene.
