When it comes to the grande complication of fashion, Moiselle creative director Harris Chan has a deft touch in balancing style and heritage

A fixture on Hong Kong’s social scene, the stylish and suave Harris Chan is the creative powerhouse behind women’s clothing label Moiselle, which was founded by his parents, Boby and Shirley Chan, in 1997. The 31-year-old Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion graduate has worked in the family business as creative director for 12 years and was recently promoted to deputy CEO to lead the company in its regional and global markets. From the moment Harris steps into our shoot, his personal style is indisputable, evident from his choice of timepiece: Breguet’s Classique Grande Complication 5359 (Hong Kong & Macau special edition).

Despite his confident performance on the creative side of Moiselle, Harris still seeks advice and guidance from his parents and other invaluable mentors. “The most challenging part has been trying to apply my emotional management style into a routine,” says Harris. “Luckily, I have good friends and uncles who are very generous with their time to share their experiences with me. Through those lessons, I have learnt that although as the deputy CEO I have to deal with figures, cash flow, reserves—responsibilities that I didn’t have as a creative director—I can also “design” ways to achieve those figures using my creativity.”

Credited with reinvigorating the label with a modern, opulent approach, Harris brings his own inimitable sensibility to designing for Moiselle while embracing the heritage of the brand—an approach that resonates with the way Breguet preserves its long-standing relationship with the French royalty in its modern designs. “I love innovation. To me, how to apply innovation to heritage has always been an interesting topic. It’s incredible to observe how brands like Breguet, with centuries of history, use modern communication methods to present their legacy.”

Given Harris’ achievements in the fashion world, where he has literally stopped traffic with the high-profile, extravagant shows he has orchestrated for Moiselle, you can be sure Harris will turn his new dream into reality.
