Cherie Chung reimagines the journey of Empress Joséphine — a muse for the founder of Chaumet — in Paris for its new Joséphine Rondes de Nuit collection

The most extraordinary power of a piece jewellery is its ability to highlight a woman's beauty and tell a story that endures the test of time. Chaumet’s latest Rondes De Nuit line in the Joséphine collection is a celebration of feminine elegance. The renowned Parisian jeweller has been adorning women with jewels since 1780, and its latest muse is former actress and timeless style icon Cherie Chung.

Chaumet is no stranger to the artist and muse relationship: the illustrious brand got its start as the court jeweller for Napoléon, Emperor of France in the early 1800s. Founder Marie Etiénne Nitot, the most sought-after jeweller in Europe at the time, designed many an exquisite piece for Empress Joséphine, who was known for her grace and impeccable taste and later become Nitot’s muse.

The irresistible charm of Empress Joséphine lies within her penchant for combining her love for avant-garde fashion with a classic ease and elegance. Two hundred and thirty years later, Cherie Chung — an enchanting Hong Kong beauty of another generation — embodies that same elegance that translates seamlessly into the 21st century.

Through a romantic stay in Paris, Chung found herself retracing the footsteps of the Empress. From the Chaumet Museum on Place Vendôme to the Chateau de Fontainebleau across the Seine, the Empress’ most cherished palace.

The history and character that jewellery imbues upon its wearer cannot be denied, and that especially rings true with the Rondes de Nuit line, a dazzling all-diamond collection of high jewellery and watches. The signature pear motif of the Joséphine collection is presented in a delicate yet bold design that is both striking and feminine.

The collection is comprised of stunning pieces that emphasise asymmetrical and mix-and-match designs. The lineup includes earrings, a supple choker necklace, and precious watches for the wearer to dazzle in any occasion. One highlight is the  “toi et moi” ring that provides twice the dazzle with its unique bilateral design. The pendant necklaces come with adjustable clasps that can be worn as long necklaces in the front or in the back. The piece's versatility is the perfect embodiment of Chaumet’s vision: continuing the legacy of the house while reiterating romantic pieces for a modern era.
