Chinese model Liu Wen shares the kind of attitude any model should adopt if they want to make it down the runway of the big names in fashion

Chinese models have been all the rage in the past few years as we’ve seen some of the biggest names in fashion introducing not just Chinese models but more Asian models down their runways and in their fashion campaigns. Du Juan, Liu Wen and Liu Dan are just some of the leading names from this new wave of exotic, fresh-faced models.

As Chinese model Liu Wen arrives in Hong Kong to walk the Marc Jacobs Autumn 2011 runway this season, we take the opportunity to speak to her about what it takes to be on top, how she had her breakthrough in the fashion world and what it’s like as a Chinese model in a world dominated by European, North and South American long-legged beauties.

For Liu Wen, modelling wasn’t always on her mind, she admits that because she was always taller than most around her, her parents took special care to make sure she was comfortable in her own skin. Though only currently 23, she had previously intended to pursue a career as a tour guide. But one day, in hopes of winning a Lenovo computer, she took part in the New Silk Road World Model Contest in Yangzhou and placed first, a mere year after Du Juan took home the same prize.
