If you're looking for a luxury gift for Lunar New Year, this Zodiac-inspired ox is one for the books

Chinese New Year is fast approaching and 2021 is the Year of the Ox, an animal that symbolises strength and determination. Those born in the Year of the Ox are known for being calm and hardworking, so what should you gift friends and family this year? Something fun? Something useful? King Fook Jewellery says it has the answer: a flashy ox-shaped ornament that's entirely made of yellow gold.

Established in 1949, King Fook Jewellery is based in Hong Kong and specialises in gold bar trading. For the city's wealthy, this company has long provided a necessary service for the cash rich, time poor. To celebrate Lunar New Year, the business continues its tradition of fine craftsmanship and has unveiled an especially spirited sculpture, which is shaped like a herd animal complete with curved horns, muscles and a wagging tail.

As far as gifting ideas go, this ornament isn't for the faint hearted. It does, however, offer a multitude of contrasts: straight lines contrast against curves, smooth surfaces swirl, and curved shapes add to the feeling that the ox is in full motion.

The right size for an office desk, this ox will also set you back a pretty penny thanks to a price tag that reads over HK$100K. Is it worth it? Well, gifts that take traditional Chinese beliefs into account are always a nice way to go.

And remember, gifting eight is considered good luck: Do you have close to HK$1M to spare?
