Chopard Prepares To Sparkle At Baselworld 2018

A look at the exciting and playful novelties Chopard is set to launch at Basel next week
As watch and jewellery brands prepare for Baselworld 2018 in a few days, watch enthusiasts, dealers and retailers around the globe are busy trying to predict what surprises exhibitors have in store. But if waiting simply isn't one of your strong suits, here's a sneak peek at a few pieces family-owned maison Chopard is set to showcase this year.
Spurred by the success of its new design for the L.U.C XP and XPS collections in 2017, Chopard has extended this aesthetic to another of its stellar models in the L.U.C collection, the L.U.C Quattro.
At the heart of the watch beats one of the original movements developed and produced by Chopard, the Calibre 98.01-L, distinguished by the patented Quattro technology. Its two pairs of stacked barrels endow this certified chronometer with a maximum 216 hours of autonomy, while keeping it surprisingly slim at just 3.7mm thick.
Horological accomplishments aside, the new interpretation is an aesthete’s dream. The L.U.C Quattro features a vertical silver-toned dial swept over by a set of blued hands, which makes a chic match with the 18K rose gold case. Its case band is satin-brushed, its bezel polished and its back hand-engraved.
The scrupulous attention required by the Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark has been lavished on this model, which comes fitted with a strap made of blue calfskin leather with an alligator leather lining.
In 1993, Chopard co-president Caroline Scheufele revolutionised the watch industry by designing Happy Sport, which artfully combined steel and diamonds. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the brand is showcasing the latest interpretation of this design icon, which captures the fun quality of previous iterations, but adds a new automatic movement and a pastel-coloured, textured mother-of-pearl dial.
Chopard has drawn on its watchmaking expertise to endow the timepiece with a self-winding movement, the 09.01-C, exclusively developed for this collection. The watch also exudes with femininity, with its dial suffused with the silky iridescence of mother-of-pearl.
The 30mm timepiece is available in four versions: a blue dial with a gem-set steel case; a pink dial with a steel and 18K rose gold case; a white dial with an 18K rose gold case; and a white dial with a gem-set 18K rose gold case. And in the playful spirit of the Happy Sport collection, the dials come alive with five moving diamonds.
Happy Hearts Collection
At Chopard, each main product line is based on a family member's passion, which include fabulous stones and vintage racing cars. “If I were to associate Chopard with a motif, it would be a big heart because there is a family behind it,” says Caroline Scheufele.
Fittingly, the Happy Hearts line embraces the heart as a symbolic motif of the Happy Diamonds collection, interpreting it with playful creativity that Scheufele has long embraced.
Presented in a wide range of colours, the Happy Hearts line now welcomes a new Tahitian mother-of-pearl version, which joins the existing variations in red, pink, blue, green and turquoise, along with the diamond, onyx, malachite and tiger’s eye.
Rare, delicate and iridescent, Tahitian mother-of-pearl, enhanced by 18K rose gold, makes its grand entrance into the Happy Hearts collection with earrings and a matching bangle whose two ends are tipped with a large mother-of-pearl heart and another smaller one featuring a moving diamond dancing between two sapphire crystals.
A cherished talisman for women, each piece is a visible token of happiness to be passed on from one generation to the next as testimony to the joyful moments when they were received as gifts.
