December 2020: What's New In Jewellery
Vara of London
Dark and dramatic, a mix of smoky quartz, amethyst and diamonds dominates the fine jewellery pieces produced by Vara of London. Launched by Mayuri Vara, who splits her time between London and Hong Kong, the jeweller’s Serpentina Linea line makes use of thin slivers of gold, which coil around the wearer in the form of a snake that’s paved with rows of diamonds.
Say goodbye to losing your AirPods: Misho has unveiled a series of earrings that will hold them in place. Available at Lane Crawford, they come in three styles: two sports-inspired sets called the Minimal/Active Tall and Minimal/ Active Tiny Pods, and one everyday staple called the Pebble Pod, which wraps around the headphone to secure it.
Sotheby's Auction House
The top lot of Sotheby’s Hong Kong’s recent jewellery auction was an imperial green jadeite bead necklace, which was offered without a public estimate and fetched an eye-watering US$8.1 million. All of its 43 jadeite beads, weighing a total of 630 carats, are examples of the finest specimen Type A jadeite, each boasting a vibrant emerald green colour that’s almost translucent. The necklace is elevated with a clasp set with brilliant- and baguette-cut diamonds.

The colour green dominates Ilia’s latest high jewellery collection, which brings jade to the forefront. A decadent necklace is undoubtedly a standout piece, featuring dragon and phoenix ornaments carved from slabs of jade. Delicate rice pearls are strung together, as are ruby and emerald beads, which add even more colour to an already luxurious creation.
