From limited-edition watches to glam jewellery timepieces, Tatler Asia's watches and jewellery director has handpicked the best new watches that should be on your radar

1. Jaeger-LeCoultre

As a born and bred Brit, I am hardwired to love Jaeger-LeCoultre. A favourite of Queen Elizabeth II, Jaeger-LeCoultre even graced the royal’s wrist on her coronation day in 1953. This is why I’m so excited about the brand’s two high jewellery watches for 2020. Entirely original in design, both pieces are powered by the Calibre 101, which was first introduced in 1929 and quickly revolutionised watchmaking for women.

Small and baguette-shaped, it opened a world of possibility to watchmakers who wanted to create high-quality timepieces for slimmer wrists.

2. Cartier

When I was first introduced to Cartier’s new Surnaturel high jewellery collection, all I could think was: wow. Clutches of coral and splashes of aquamarine, beryl and quartz pull your attention in different directions, but the Panthere Tropicale wristwatch is what really caught my eye.

A square diamond-paved dial, powered by a quartz movement, is the focal point. Alongside it, octagonal aquamarines and blue tourmalines unify a side of coral and another of diamond-set onyx.

3. Tag Heuer

Tag Heuer unveiled the Carrera 160 Years Silver Dial Limited Edition at the beginning of the year in celebration of the brand’s 160th anniversary. Now, it’s made a second collectors’ edition available: the Carrera 160 Years Montreal Limited Edition.

The Montreal collection was, of course, one of the brand’s most famous after it was launched in 1972. It now makes a comeback in the form of a 39 mm Carrera that’s limited to 1,000 pieces.

4. Bremont

A former Gurkha and ex-British Special Boat Service member, Nirmal “Nims” Purja climbed all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks in less than seven months last year. For the expedition, which was named Bremont Project Possible after its primary sponsor, Purja wore a Supermarine 300 dive watch by the British brand.

To celebrate Purja’s mountaineering success, a new limited-edition GMT version of Bremont’s S500 dive watch has just been unveiled. A titanium and bronze case ensures that this wristwatch is incredibly lightweight, and while at US$6,695 this isn’t one of Bremont’s more affordable timepieces, it’s certainly among the most special.
