Sharp Statement: What Esther Sham Loves About Salvatore Ferragamo's Latest Collection
As the founder of French restaurant Maison ES and private dining space Ta Pantry, Esther Sham is no stranger to multitasking. The model-turned-chef juggles a demanding professional career and a busy family life, as a wife and mother of two young boys. Despite her inevitably challenging schedule, she’s always seen impeccably dressed at the city’s most exclusive parties.
What’s your go-to outfit when you’re in a rush in the morning?
Honestly, my advice is to always play safe when you’re in a rush. My go-to outfit when in a rush in the morning is a plain T-shirt with a pair of chic trousers. If I have to be out from day to night, I would probably wear a simple silk tank with high-waisted trousers with flats or a pair of sneakers. And for the evening if I were to go out for cocktails, I would add a blazer and change into pointed heels.
What’s an item in your wardrobe that you always go back to?
Definitely white t-shirts. My wardrobe is filled with them, but I still don’t feel like I have enough.
How would you define your personal style?
Simple and sleek. I have a deep appreciation for fine details, so even if it’s a seemingly minimal jacket, I pay close attention to the cut, the finishing and if there are any special details.
What’s a look that make you feel the most confident?
I feel the most confident in a look with a strong-shouldered jacket. When it comes to styling, I would ensure the jacket is neatly pressed, and style it with clean hair and strong accessories.

Any styling tricks or tips for dressing on the go? When you’re out all day- what’s something to be mindful of when getting dressed in the morning?
When dressing on the go, I always prefer to stay really simple in terms of colour choice, then add a hat or a pair of sunglasses. A pet peeve of mine is I can’t stand messy hair, so if I don’t have time to blowout my hair in the morning, I will either tie it back or wear a hat.
What are your favourite looks from Paul Andrew’s Salvatore Ferragamo this season?
My favourite looks from Ferragamo’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection are all black actually, but there are so many contrasting details which makes it very interesting. I love the juxtaposition of a masculine bomber jacket with mixed suede & shiny leather worn with an A-line pleated skirt and Oxford shoes.
Such a great mix of masculine & feminine and also different fabrics. These are exactly what I love. And I also loved the black suit with matching trousers from my shoot. It’s the perfect example of a versatile suit, it can be style with chunky jewellery and high heels for the evening, but I could just as easily wear it unbuttoned with a t-shirt inside for a casual occasion.
