From the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II to the wedding ceremony of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Westminster Abbey has long played host to momentous occasions with significant fashion influence. The historical monument also had a starring role in Gucci’s Resort collection fashion show, staged on June 3. The show was appropriately set in London, as Creative Director Alessandro Michele drew references from all things British — from the prim and proper Victorian era to the punk subculture in the 70's.

The designer loves a good juxtaposition: the collection was a pairing of street wear (cue acid wash jeans with oversized sweatshirts and well-worn screen tees) to the most luxurious fabrics (think mink coats with peacock prints, seemingly borrowed from granny). The contrast of saturated colours was also a high note of the event: a pair of sneakers with a sky-high rainbow platform is sure to become the hottest street style accessory next season.
