The luxury Swiss watchmaker debuts an innovative new material to mark the 50th anniversary of its iconic Aquatimer model
Occasionally, a watchmaker will take a truly innovative approach to a classic design rather than making minor adjustments. IWC Schaffhausen is doing just that as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Aquatimer, boldly introducing a new material to its iconic diving watch.
The Aquatimer is renowned amongst divers searching for a durable and accurate timepiece. Since 1967, IWC has gone above and beyond to meet the needs of divers with the watch's features: water-resistant up to 200 metres, with an internal rotating bezel for setting the dive time. The 50th anniversary model is taking a revolutionary approach by attempting to improve on the watch’s most basic component—the case.
The new Aquatimer will feature Ceratanium, a new material IWC claims to be as light and unbreakable as titanium and as hard and scratch-resistant as ceramic. Ceratanium is a creation of IWC’s expert team, perfected over a development process that took more than five years.
