Hermès travel bags owned by famous '70s couple—Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg—are up for auction in Monaco, and for a good cause
After the Hermès Birkin—named after the actor and singer Jane Birkin—was sold for over double its estimate at £162,500 (HK$1.5 million) in at Christie’s sale in London last month, Jane Birkin is donating two Hermès bags that were used by her and her late partner Serge Gainsbourg on their travels from Paris to London every Christmas.
French auction house Artcurial will be selling off the Haut à Courroies 50cm bag—four times the size of the iconic Hermès Birkin—and the American Garment Bag, made in the ‘70s featuring black grained leather with a brass trim at the Hôtel Hermitage in Monte Carlo on July 19, 2019.
