Chaumet

Last year, Chaumet unveiled its Trésors d´Ailleurs rings to celebrate the reopening of its flagship at 12 Place Vendôme in Paris. Now, the brand has once again turned to architecture for inspiration.

Six high jewellery parures inspired by Paris’s landscape and history beautifully capture Chaumet’s rich heritage, as well as its modernity. We particularly love the Lacis suite, which is cast in white gold. Slivers of metal conjure up images of stone latticework, while a smattering of diamonds in white and yellow play with light.

London-based brand Lark & Berry’s Supernova necklace, which was worn at last year’s Academy Awards by Pose actor Billy Porter, has been reworked into a brand new collection. The 64.5-carat diamond-set necklace was one of three pieces in a suite created for the 2020 Oscars, and was worn by Porter, who performed the ceremony’s opening musical number.

Set with gemstones by American lab-grown diamond specialist Diamond Foundry, this spectacular necklace has been remodelled into a limited-edition collection of 39 smaller pieces, all set in 18-karat white gold.

Nirav Modi, who became famous following the sale of a necklace at Christie’s Hong Kong in 2010, has been featured in one of the episodes from Netflix’s new documentary Bad Boy Billionaires: India.

The series focuses on the corruption and money laundering scandals of several Indian billionaires and Modi is one of them. The Golconda diamond-set necklace went under the hammer for HK$27.5 million, earning Modi the nickname “Diamond King”. He was later arrested in London and, at the time of writing, is fighting an extradition case. When asked in 2016 during a Tatler interview how he felt being called “India’s youngest billionaire”, Modi replied: “I just want to make beautiful jewellery; everything else is secondary.”

Gucci’s most recent high jewellery collection, Hortus Deliciarum—Latin for “Garden of Delights”—was designed by creative director Alessandro Michele. More than 200 one-of-a-kind pieces are on offer, including oversized cocktail rings and Victorian-style ornate crosses.

Gucci’s animal emblems also make an appearance, such as the lion, tiger, snake and, of course, the humble bee.

Five extraordinarily rare blue diamonds, which weigh 25.75, 21.25, 17.57, 11.42 and 9.61 carats respectively, have been recovered within a single week from Petra Diamonds’ famous Cullinan mine in South Africa.

They are among the world’s most expensive diamonds, having been sold to a partnership between De Beers and Diacore for US$40.36 million, and were formed deep within the Earth—about 650 kms below the surface, four times as deep as where white diamonds are formed.

Carolina Bucci

Florentine jewellery designer Carolina Bucci’s latest collection Kiss, which is an acronym for “keep it super simple” (not stupid in this case), is inspired by the coiled mechanism of a watch’s balance spring, which regulates the speed at which the hands move around the dial.

Available in yellow, pink, white, black or brown gold, these fantastic pieces are the result of a four-year relationship between Bucci and Audemars Piguet, with whom she launched the watchmaker’s iconic Royal Oak Frosted Gold line.

Actress Marion Cotillard has partnered with Chopard for more than 15 years, and has now taken that working relationship to a whole new level by helping to design a capsule collection. Her pieces sit under the brand’s Ice Cube collection and take inspiration from the line’s boldness and asymmetry. “Marion Cotillard is very creative and all our discussions on this project have been extremely inspiring,” says Chopard artistic director and co-president Caroline Scheufele.

“By bringing her interpretation to our Ice Cube collection, she is inventing a contemporary and relaxed way to wear diamonds.”

Gübelin

Gübelin has launched what it describes as the first ever rating system for coloured gems, which the brand hopes will provide a method to categorise coloured stones similar to the way diamonds are currently rated.

Called Gübelin Points, the system looks at three factors: quality, rarity and salience, which considers what makes a gemstone exceptional, with the hope that connoisseurs will be able to buy jewellery with added confidence.

An exquisite emerald- and diamond set necklace was sold for more than HK$54 million by Christie’s Asia at its Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels sale on November 29.
