The founder of Jia Jia shares what it’s like to join The Vanguard, Net-a-Porter’s programme for emerging designers
Tell us about your collaboration with The Vanguard.
We are launching a line of fine jewellery made with crystals, which are uncut, unpolished and untreated. All our crystals are one-of-a-kind and are ethically mined.
What do you love about crystals?
I’ve walked California’s beaches collecting minerals for as long as I can remember. My first healing crystal was given to me by my spirit guide for protection and I still carry it around with me. When I studied yoga in Bali, I meditated with crystals and that’s when I decided to start my brand.
What’s your favourite crystal?
I’m incredibly proud of our crystal quartz, which is the main crystal we use, because it’s from the United States, which happens to have some of the purest crystals worldwide. Some of our crystals are 300 million years old.

If you weren’t a jeweller, what would you be?
I’d run my own hotel and holistic healing centre in Bali.

Shanghai to visit my family.
