The Oystersteel and 18-karat white gold Datejust comes with a royal-blue dial
President Joe Biden wore a Rolex Datejust when he was sworn into the US government’s top job yesterday morning.
When the president put his hand on his five-inch-thick Bible, which features a Celtic cross on the cover and has been in the Biden family since 1893, watch nerds everywhere caught a glimpse of the stellar timepiece as it peeked out from under his sleeve.
Rolex watches have been worn by countless presidents, including Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan. Donald Trump has a flashy all-yellow-gold Day-Date, and even Barack Obama has been spotted with a Rolex Cellini, which he wore for his official presidential portrait.
President Biden continued to wear his Datejust during his first hours in the Oval Office, where he signed numerous executive orders addressing everything from Covid-19 to workplace discrimination.
Late last year, Tatler reported that the then-president-elect had been photographed sporting different Omega Seamasters. A stainless-steel model was strapped to his wrist and snapped by White House paparazzi back when he served with then-President Barack Obama.
Biden also owns his very own Omega "Moonwatch", which he took to a cover shoot for InStyle magazine in 2017, as well as tickers by Seiko and Vulcain.
We’re delighted to see a brand-new timepiece strapped to his wrist. The Oystersteel and 18-karat white gold model is housed in a 41 mm case that comes with a super slick jubilee bracelet, which was specifically designed for the Datejust line in celebration of Rolex's 40th anniversary in 1945. The bracelet uses a five-piece, semi-circular link design that's more dressy than the watchmaker's typical Oyster bracelet.
A royal-blue dial makes it a fitting tribute from a lifelong Democrat who has served his country for decades. Congratulations, Biden!
