The exhibition, in partnership with Joyce and Antoine Kruk, will showcase pieces that transform shopping bags into art centrepieces this February 2021

This Chinese New Year, Joyce is launching a fashion and art exhibition that brings Franco-Japanese artist, Antoine Kruk's playful expression to life in Hong Kong. Kruk borrows from the strong identities of iconic shopping bags such as Chanel, Celine, Comme des Garçons and Hermes and turns them into canvasses for his exuberant and illustrative work—born from the idea to transform the existing.

His themes circles around the emblems of a consumerist society but illustrated in a cheerful way, evoking a fond homage to fashion culture and his personal memories of it. Kruk extends his vision with the Joyce shopping bag, recreating it in whimsical ways and interpreting it on multiple levels from well-known designs to the brand's logo itself.

It comes as no surprise as Kruk is a multi-faceted artist-at-large who wears a lot of hats—an illustrator, artistic designer and designer who worked with top luxury fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton and Valentino. He has also designed costumes for operas and cabarets.

Kruk reinterprets the best of fashion and brings the exhibition to life with his own imagination and wit, adding meticulous attention to detail that will allow viewers to interpret each expression to come up with new realisations at each viewing.

Some of the reimagined shopping bags featured in the exhibition include Yves Saint Laurent, sacai, Thom Browne, Prada, Yohji Yamamoto, Loewe and Gucci. Kruk uses a wide variety of techniques for the pieces which include painting, upcycling, cutting and folding techniques.

The Joyce x Antoine Kruk exhibition launches from February 4 at Joyce Central Store at New World Tower, Central.
