For the launch of the Sesia bag, Italian designer Loro Piana partnered with three inspiring women who embodied their latest creation

When luxury Italian designer Loro Piana decided to launch their brand new Sesia bag, they sought out champions who channelled the spirit of the modern classic. Elegant, contemporary and stunningly understated, the brand naturally gravitated towards three women that embodied the Sesia for their new campaign: Natalia Vodianova, Tong Liya and Malika Louback.

In an airy, tender campaign shot by renowned British photographer David Sims, the brand’s chosen heroines can be seen modelling different colourways of the Sesia. According to the designer, all three of its campaign stars represent the timeless bag’s “freedom of movement, its modernity and its obvious simplicity.”

Russian supermodel and philanthropist Vodianova unveiled the brown Sesia bag on her Instagram, adding she was “so proud” to be a part of the campaign. She modelled it with a striking multicoloured strap, which allows the versatile bag to be worn a number of ways alongside its leather double strap handles.

Chinese actress Tong Liya was all smiles as she channeled the bag’s soft femininity throughout the campaign, wearing a spring-friendly pastel pink version of the Sesia. She additionally modelled another blue version of the bag in one of the brand’s campaign videos.

The designer also tapped rising fashion star Malika Louback for their campaign, a model who recently exploded onto the scene with a stellar debut: the September 2020 cover of Vogue Paris. She modelled a sage version of the elegant bag and was snapped behind the scenes beaming down at it.

Loro Piana also shared the behind-the-scenes process of crafting a Sesia bag, which takes 12 days of work, 800 steps and requires up to 20 veteran craftsmen to create according to WWD. Named after the river that drifts by Loro Piana’s headquarters, the fluid sloping shape of the bag was inspired by nature and its laser-cut symmetry adds harmony to the silhouette.

Short videos revealed the passion and attention to detail that goes into handcrafting each Sesia bag, from the initial sketches to the meticulous stitching of leather patterns. With six generations of experience under its belt, the brand’s expertise was clearly on display as both veteran artisans and precision instruments were used to create a single Sesia: combining both tradition and modern practices.

The Sesia is currently available now and comes in a range of sizes, from a small crossbody to a large tote version. Besides the colourways modelled by Vodianova, Liya and Louback, the bags also come in black, blue, yellow, emerald green and more to match your personal style. Each Sesia also includes the brand’s cursive embossed logo and a subtle button, which features the designer’s grand crest of arms.
