With the pandemic making it impossible to hold traditional cruise shows in far-flung places, brands like Louis Vuitton look to make a statement a little closer to home

Louis Vuitton held a local runway show at The Pulse in Repulse Bay to present its Cruise 2021 collection. Masked guests sat in the open-air roof top as models strutted on the astroturfed runway, two of whom were Michael Wong and Janet Ma's daughters Irisa and Kayla.

The clothes—mostly cropped jackets, easy separates, sweat-sets and lots of logo prints—were meant to evoke a sense of wanderlust. Some pieces, mostly miniskirts and khaki coats were inspired by safari-wear, others contained nautical elements like golden buttons on the collars of chunky jumpers, but the playing card served as the biggest inspiration, with the house introducing hearts into its iconic monogram for the first time, splattered across pyjama sets, Archlight sneakers and classic Twist bags alike.

For a lucky few, an exclusive capsule of pieces with galactic prints can be found at select stores around the world, and only at the Canton Road store in Hong Kong.

Overall, while keeping with the relaxed designs of most Cruise collections, what was on show display was definitely a much more commercialised offering, which made sense given that after viewing the show, VIP guests and press were invited to head down to the buzzing showroom, where all the pieces were available to buy straight off the runway.
