New hotels and resorts across the Asia-Pacific region hit the sweet spot when it comes to romantic destination weddings and unforgettable honeymoons

Lizard Island

The newly renovated Lizard Island is a sight to behold, thanks in large part to its secluded location on the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia. A breezy, fresh white design exudes effortless chic throughout the luxurious suites and villas—all with direct access to the island’s 24 private beaches and 1,000 hectares of national park.

Designed by Melbourne-based Hecker Guthrie Interior Designers, Lizard Island has a fresh and understated appeal that’s nothing if not relaxing. Of the 40 suites on the expansive property, The Villa is perhaps the most romantic, owing to its sweeping views of the Coral Sea and Sunset Beach from its perch atop a rugged ridge. The rustic-chic space sprawls across 1,600sqft and includes two bedrooms, an indulgent bathtub, and a private kitchen, where sunset cocktails and canapés can be prepared in-room to enjoy on the wide terrace or beside the plunge pool.

While all suites feature tech-savvy touches, such as the Bang & Olufsen sound systems and LCD smart TVs, there’s no promise of phone service on the island. So prepare to unplug and enjoy yourself—whether it’s snorkelling, diving, deep-sea fishing, sailing, sunbathing or simply relaxing in the spa.

If you do care to leave your room, the island offers all kinds of romantic excursions for adventurous couples and gourmands. A sunset dinner, for example, includes a private consultation with the head chef and a seven-course meal with wine pairing served in an intimate setting on the beach.

The Essential Day Spa is not to be missed—calming interiors, Parisian skincare products from La Biosthetique, and ultra-romantic couple’s treatments will only further enhance your stay. And while Lizard Island is perfect for honeymooners, it’s also a wedding destination of choice for jet-setting couples thanks to its remote location. The entire island can be booked to accommodate a wedding of up to 80 guests.

The luxury hotel has brought its signature butler service to this new property, as well as a penchant for all things epicurean. On the big day, the hotel will ensure you’re doted on with accommodation in a St Regis suite, where a fresh flower bouquet awaits. For an exciting twist, the hotel will teach the groom the art of the sabre with a complimentary bottle of champagne, so he can lead a toast onstage. Afterwards, you’ll take home an engraved sabre with your names to remember the occasion next time you pop some bubbly. The wedding package also includes a few extra perks, such as three hours’ use of a chauffeured Rolls-Royce Phantom and an indulgent in-suite breakfast the next morning.

After the wedding, couples get to unwind with some pampering through a 90-minute spa treatment at the Iridium Spa, which is perched on the 38th floor and features sweeping views of Cotai. The spa offers lavish couple’s suites, which come complete with a hot tub and daybed, perfect for resting up and recharging before you embark on your honeymoon.
