Luca Guadagnino’s fashion documentary on the history of Salvatore Ferragamo will debut at the 77th Venice Film Festival this September

A feature-length documentary directed by renowned Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino dedicated to Salvatore Ferragamo’s family history and life’s work has been selected for the 77th Venice Film Festival and will be released globally this September.

Entitled, Salvatore, Shoemaker of Dreams, the film took three years to produce, and delves into the fashion brand’s archives with the help of the Ferragamo family who shares anecdotes and never-before-seen tape recordings. “It is an honour for me and my entire family that a director of Luca Guadagnino’s calibre would take an interest in our family history, adapting it for the big screen,” says Ferruccio Ferragamo, eldest son and chairman.

The documentary is set to begin in Ferragamo’s Italian hometown of Bonito, ahead of the shoemaker moving to the US in 1914 and rising to fame in the 1930s, coming full circle to depict the brand today.

Along with this project, the Italian director has been busy writing and directing the upcoming TV series, We Are Who We Are, which will also premier this September. The director is perhaps best known for producing and directing the acclaimed film adaption of Call Me By Your Name––the sequel for which is also in the works, but is currently postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
