1/5 Patek Philippe Nautilus Automatic Black-Blue Dial

Sporty but also elegant, the Nautilus is very versatile and can be worn to every occasion. But if you want to own one, your chances are slim—you’re probably more likely to win the lottery. Waiting lists are as long as five years, but you can buy one on the pre-owned market—at twice the price. Thanks to collector demand, this watch is likely to retain its value for a very long time.

2/5 Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

You can’t go wrong with a Cosmograph Daytona, as long as you pick one up at a reasonable price. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a vintage or modern model, this watch will always be highly collectable. Thanks to Rolex’s reputation and heritage, celebrities continue to be spotted sporting the brand’s most iconic models. This exposure ensures that Rolex collections are highly coveted.

3/5 FP Journe Chronomètre Bleu

The Chronomètre Bleu is arguably one of FP Journe’s simpler watches, but you’d be surprised how popular they are. So much so that the manufacturer has already stopped accepting order requests. This watch comes with a beautiful blue dial and tantalum case in dark grey, making it ideal for collectors who love experimenting with different coloured straps. Its pre-owned market price isn’t as high as the Rolex Daytona, but it has enjoyed a steady increase since its release seven years ago.

4/5 Omega Speedmaster Ref 105.003

For many of us, the first thing that comes to mind when we think about Omega is Buzz Aldrin’s Speedmaster Professional, which became the first watch worn on the moon. The moment Aldrin stepped onto the lunar surface in 1969, the Speedmaster became a must-have for any Omega collector, and this is especially the case for Ref 105.003, which was the very first model that went through Nasa’s watch trials in 1964. If you’re lucky enough to find one at auction that’s in good condition and going for a reasonable price, you won’t regret it.

5/5 Rolex “Red” Submariner and/or “Double Red” Sea Dweller

There’s something really charming about the red font on a Rolex dial. Often considered entry points into collecting special vintage Rolexes, the “Red” Submariner and “Double Red” Sea-Dweller are two of the most sought-after vintage Rolex references. Good examples have become much rarer over the years, but once in a while it’s still possible to spot one at auction.
