Here's your first look at Bulgari, Zenith and Hublot's new line-up of watches for 2021

The inaugural edition of LVMH Watch Week was held at the beginning of last year at Bulgari Hotel & Resorts, Dubai, just weeks before the Covid-19 outbreak put a stop to international travel.

This year, amid concerns about new contagious coronavirus strains, the event moved to an all-digital format. Tag Heuer was the only LVMH watchmaker that decided not to participate, choosing instead to organise its own product rollouts over the coming weeks.

Despite the absence of a physical trade exhibition, Bulgari, Zenith and Hublot's new novelties don't disappoint. Innovative colours have been unveiled, experimental materials utilised, and signature designs improved.

The latest in a series of complicated Octo Roma watches, Bulgari's Octo Roma Carillon Tourbillon seamlessly combines a tourbillon with a minute repeater, which strikes the Chimes of Westminster.

Unapologetically complex, this tough-guy timepiece is visually spectacular, thanks to its jet-black DLC (diamond-like carbon) coated titanium case, which measures in at a roomy 44 mm.

The watch's three gongs and three hammers are housed on the left-hand side of the dial, so that the wearer can admire the complication easily from the wrist when activated using the white gold push-button at 9 o'clock.

A smooth titanium middle case adds a surprising, and much welcomed, touch that gives the Octo Roma Carillon Tourbillon a more sophisticated look when compared to an all-DLC-coated, matt case.

Limited to just 15 pieces, get yours for US$259,000.

The latest addition to Hublot's Spirit line, the Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve Carbon White is an incredibly modern timepiece that's not for the faint-hearted.

Limited to 100 pieces, this watch features a tonneau-shaped case and bezel that's made using carbon fibre. White inclusions are achieved using glass microfibres that mottle the otherwise black and grey structure, which is perfectly paired with a white-lined rubber strap that can be easily swapped using the watchmaker's One-Click system.

If that weren't enough, an eye-catching skeletonised dial is decorated with a tourbillon cage that's positioned at 6 o'clock. An hour and minutes disc is positioned above and slightly off-centre at 3 o'clock, opposite an easy-to-read power reserve display that counts down the days before your Spirit of Big Bang is out of juice.

There's something about this watch that reminds me of Predator (1987), which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of an elite paramilitary rescue team that are on a mission to save hostages in guerrilla-held territory in a Central American rainforest.

Everything we love about Zenith's signature Defy 21 watch has been amplified by Urban Jungle's forest-green ceramic case and cordura-effect strap.

An earthy-looking, openworked dial allows the wearer to admire the watch's El Primero 9004 automatic movement, which powers matt black and silver counters that pop against the moving mechanism.

Practical, as well as stylish, this watch is water resistant to 100 metres and can be yours for a (comparably) affordable US$14,500.
