Mulberry join forces with British fashion designer, Alexa Chung, to design a limited-edition capsule collection as part of its 50th-anniversary celebration

In addition to releasing a limited-edition Icon Edition collection and collaborating with emerging designers such as Priya Ahluwalia, Mulberry is also joining forces with British designer Alexa Chung as part of its 50th-anniversary festivities. Chung is not only a long-time friend of the house, she also inspired one of its iconic bags, the Alexa. The new design collaboration, Mulberry x Alexa Chung, launches globally on July 12 and marks a new chapter in the Mulberry Editions.

The iconic team-up also amplifies the fashion house's legacy of bold collaboration with Mulberry Editions being a series of limited-edition capsules, where leading creatives have been invited to put their own spin on the house's design DNA. Despite her close relationship with the house, this is Chung's design debut for Mulberry.

"Mulberry has always been a brand that’s very close to my heart. The Alexa represents a moment in my life that I’m extraordinarily proud of and feel really lucky to have experienced. It’s nostalgic and sentimental and sweet and joyful. This time, I wanted to create something that straddled what the bag means to me personally, but could become that for someone else’s wardrobe," she says.

"Alexa has been an important part of Mulberry’s history, and it’s an honour to welcome her to the house for this highly personal design collaboration during our 50th anniversary. Since Alexa first caught our eye with her unexpected, confident approach to style, she has also shown herself to be an equally exciting and talented designer who shares our appreciation for bold British design," adds Thierry Andretta, CEO of Mulberry.

The capsule collection stars two styles—a roomy shoulder bag called the Big Guy and a compact clutch called Little Guy. Both styles have a go-everywhere, wear-as-you-wish spirit. It channels the effortless, sleek style of 70s style icons like Charlotte Rampling and Lauren Hutton. Both bags also daw on the key components of Chung's personal style: masculine formality with sprinkles of vintage romance and a deep appreciation for British design.

Nodding to the fashion house and designer's shared designer, Chung also took inspiration from the 2010 Alexa—the bag the fashion house was inspired by. Taking their cue from the vintage satchels as well as the Elkington briefcase that inspired the original Alexa, the Big Guy and Little Guy feature chain straps and a boxy, streamlined silhouette. The colour palette ranges from classic, Earthly shades such as black, dark chocolate and tan to pretty, optimistic tones like apple green and denim blue.

Its materials include glossy crocodile-effect patent leather, sumptuous velvet suede. Launching alongside the line-up is an edit of complementary Alexa bags, which are released in the same colour palette. The capsule collection also chimes in with Mulberry's ongoing commitment to sustainability as they are crafted from materials that are sourced from environmentally rated tanneries, made in Mulberry's carbon-neutral Somerset factories.
