Mulberry To Collaborate With Emerging Designers As Part Of 50th Anniversary Celebrations
Continuing its 50th-anniversary celebrations, Mulberry is launching a series of joyful collaborations with three of today's most visionary designers: Priya Ahluwalia, Richard Malone and Nicholas Daley. Each of the three designers will create a capsule collection as part of Mulberry Editions, a new offering of limited-edition accessories that will drop through 2021. The line draws inspiration from the brand's iconic designs and features a list of new collaborative partners from the contemporary design community, many of whom are at the forefront of their creative fields.
Ahluwalia, Malone and Daley have each reimagined an existing Mulberry silhouette, bringing their unique design ethos into dialogue with the values that the fashion house has always cherished—progressive British craftsmanship, made-to-last design, responsible innovation and community spirit. The designs will explore what luxury sustainable craft can mean in the 21st century, putting emphasis on low impact manufacturing, innovative sourcing and product circularity.
The brand's commitment to being a global sustainability leader across the fashion industry is highlighted in their Made to Last Manifesto, which they launched during Earth Day last month. "Ahluwalia, Malone and Daley are distinct, powerful voices within contemporary British culture. We are honoured to be working with them, and excited to introduce their capsules to a global audience this year," the brand said in a statement.
I’m delighted that Mulberry is collaborating with three such talented designers, each with their own innovative design ethos and unique creative voice
Priya Ahluwalia is the winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design as well as the LVMH Prize in 2020. The Nigerian-Indian and London-based menswear designer launched her eponymous label in 2018, right after graduating from university. Her label combines elements from her dual heritage as well as her London roots, and explores the potential of vintage and surplus clothing through her use of textile techniques. Her capsule collection is launching in June 2021.
Meanwhile, London-based, Irish-born designer, Richard Malone is fast becoming the fashion industry's go-to for authenticity, resourcefulness and experimentation. Malone is fully committed to sustainability, community, local production and a less harmful business model, releasing his collection in limited numbers. His capsule collection with Mulberry is slated for a September 2021 release.
And finally, Jamaican-Scottish menswear designer, Nicholas Daley launched his namesake label in 2015 after graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2013. His designs focus on the interplay of fashion, music and culture. He has also continually explored his dual-ethnic heritage and widely reflected on the notion of multiculturalism within the British identity. His collaboration with Mulberry will launch in November this year.
