The latest collection from Hermès breathes new life into artistic objects and discarded materials salvaged from the historic brand's workshops

HermÈs Focus

What if we gave unused and incompatible materials a second chance – a chance to be reborn into something entirely new? What if we added exceptional craftsmanship in the process of their reincarnation, headed by the creative minds behind Hermès?

From their workships, Hermès have collected the material 'rejects' – from crococile skin to crystal glass – that are still rich with limitless potential, and commissioned its artisans to venture into the whimsical territory of creativity, giving birth to a whole new project: petit h.

The original concept of petit h is to bring together artists, artisans and unused materials in one workshop to foster unrestrained creativity. The workshop becomes a formidable laboratory of ideas, and of experimentation where everything can be re-imagined, including the use of uneven dyes on crocodile skin, or the union of unrelated materials, such as dumbbells and leather.

It is a reinvention dreamt up by Pascale Mussard, a member of the sixth generation of the Hermès family, who has been nicknamed ‘Don’t-throw-that-out, it-might-be-useful’ since childhood. Together with a team of artisans at Hermès and collaborating artists, Mussard has forged a link between inspiration from the past and the unwritten future, in which nothing is lost, and where everything is transformed into new and useful creations.

Among our favourite items are the horse-shaped secretaire made of oakwood structures, togo calfskin, alligator and niloticus crocodile skins by three craftsmen; and the “Squelette” bag made of epsom calfskin and light grey wool felt.

The petit h collection will be available in Hermès’ boutique in Central from September 26 to October 18. Stay tuned to find out their availabilities and prices.
