Everything you need to know about the lavish, three-day celebration in Capri

It started three years ago when they met at a party in Myanmar, and it became official this summer in Capri, when Hong Kong It girl Feiping Chang, the founder of lifestyle website xoxofei.com, and financier Lincoln Li tied the knot during a sun-soaked three-day weekend filled with love, laughs and plenty of limoncello.

Feiping, known as Fei to her friends, and Lincoln chose the glamorous Italian island because they wanted to share a favourite holiday destination with their friends and families.

“I love Capri, it’s my happy place. I always knew that if I were to get married one day, I would want to do it there. I think it’s a really beautiful and magical spot where everyone, not just us, will be able to make amazing memories.”

The couple wanted their 130 guests to experience different parts of the island over the three days of festivities. The celebrations kicked off with a welcome dinner at Da Paolino, a popular restaurant that serves traditional fare under a canopy of fragrant lemon trees, the very essence of Capri.

The welcome dinner

The night started on a fun note, with the guests having to figure out where they were to sit by searching through a fruit stand laid out in the traditional style of Capri and the Amalfi Coast. There, among the crates of lemons, were the guests’ names, drawn on ceramic plates made by local artisans. The fruit stand also served as a photo booth, featuring the couple’s wedding hashtag in festival lighting.

Once seated, the guests feasted on classic southern Italian fare served family style, including metre-long pizzas that were sliced at the table, fresh burrata with basil, and pasta prepared in the hollow of a parmesan wheel.

“We wanted the vibe of the whole night to be very Italian—very classic and colourful,” says Fei. “The after-party was at a club called Taverna Anema e Core, the quintessential Capri night club that feels straight out of a Fellini movie, where we danced on tables to classic Italian songs."

An Italian summer day

The next day was spent enjoying the sunshine and azure waters of the Amalfi Coast. “We took everybody out to Nerano to our favourite beach club, called Conca del Sogno. It’s a really beautiful spot where you can have lunch by the ocean, work on your tan and drink cocktails all the way till sunset.”

After a seafood lunch, the guests headed to the outdoor lounge area for dancing and classic Italian summer cocktails of sgroppini (lemon sorbet topped with prosecco), lemon granitas and Aperol spritzes. They happily made use of the towels, custom-made fans and Revé by René sunglasses that came in straw tote bags personalised with each guest’s name embroidered on the front, along with other helpful welcome gifts such as the custom-made booklets with information on the couple’s favourite spots in Capri.

“Our DJ, Fabio Vuotto, was playing upbeat tunes all day and we continued dancing till sunset. Many of us decided to do as the locals do and jump off the cliff into the perfect blue sea. It was so much fun,” laughs Fei. “I probably shouldn’t have jumped off the cliff a day before my wedding, though, as I woke up with a ton of bruises everywhere, but it was totally worth it!”

While the days leading up to the wedding had already been filled with so many personal and unique elements, the ceremony and reception stepped it up another notch. Fei and Lincoln had immediately fallen in love with the historic Villa Lysis when they visited it, because of its incredible architecture, location and romantic history.

Villa Lysis

Located on a mountaintop, Villa Lysis boasts picture-perfect views of Capri and the Mediterranean Sea. Built in 1904, the local government has been gradually restoring it to its former glory and this was the first wedding of its kind to take place at the venue. The preparations for the wedding included repaving the roof and building a bridge to connect the previously inaccessible rooftop to the villa’s extensive gardens.

“We were happy to aid in the restoration of the villa as our gift to this island that we love so much, and we can’t wait for more people to visit this special place in the years to come."

On the big day, carts fitted with comfortable seating and blue-and-white striped canopies transported the guests from their hotel, the Tiberio Palace, to Villa Lysis. As the carts meandered up the steep footpath, the guests were treated to little surprises along the way.

Local folk bands in traditional costume danced and provided music; the owner of a salumeria came out to serve glasses of chilled limoncello; and there were signs on the shopfronts, among boxes of produce and along the road that were customised for the wedding.

“The whole community was so welcoming. We could hear cheers of auguri!—congratulations in Italian—coming from the houses along the way. It was such a heart-warming journey,” remembers Fei.

Tall trees framing the courtyard in front of the villa were decorated with flowers and hanging lights for the occasion, and the ground was carpeted with wild flowers.

The couture dress

Amid this fairytale setting, Fei walked down the aisle to Lincoln in an haute couture wedding dress by Giambattista Valli, an ethereal confection of layers and layers of pleated tulle that took nine months and four fittings in Paris to become reality, complemented by Nirav Modi jewellery.

“The dress took a long time to create and was sent directly from Paris to Capri, so I saw the final dress for the first time on my wedding day,” says Fei. “Giamba really went above and beyond to create the most spectacular gown of my dreams. It was an absolute work of art and I felt like I was wrapped in a cloud I pulled from the sky.

“I really didn’t want to cry on the day, but while I was walking down the aisle, I saw several friends shedding happy tears. That was such a touching moment for me and, of course, I had a good cry in the end.”

A rooftop reception

After the ceremony, the guests headed to the rooftop for the reception, where a custom-built pergola was decorated with wild flowers. Handmade sugar flowers bearing the guest’s name marked each place setting.

Between courses, warm-hearted speeches were delivered by Lincoln’s groomsmen, Eric Fok, Anthony Shek, Hui Lim and Rex Lo, whose version of the “10 Things to Know About Almost-Weds Feiping Chang & Lincoln Li” story on hongkongtatler.com provided lots of laughs. Caroline Li, one of the bridesmaids, gave a moving speech, as did Lincoln’s godsister, Shentel Lee.

While all this was going on, Fei and Lincoln’s wedding cake was being assembled on site—a traditional millefoglie cake, the Italian version of the French millefeuille, that was topped with wild strawberries. After they cut the cake, the couple had their first dance as husband and wife to songs sung by their friend, Geoffrey Chuang, while the sky was filled with fireworks and confetti.

The favourite moment

Despite having so many moments to choose from, Fei did not hesitate to name her favourite. “Definitely Lincoln’s speech. There was not a dry eye in sight and we were both overwhelmed with emotions,” she says.

“As beautiful as a wedding can be, the most important element is ultimately the union of two lives. I feel so lucky to be marrying such an incredible man whom I respect so much and who inspires me every day.”
