Whether she’s walking the red carpet or running after her two kids, Adrienne Hui always looks effortlessly stylish, which earned her the title of Hong Kong Tatler's Most Stylish Lady of 2018. She shares her red carpet tips and her favourite fashion picks for the coming season on Moda Operandi:
Moda Operandi Focus
How would you describe your personal style?
I would say it’s simple and straightforward, but with a cool twist and occasional girly flair.
Where and when do you shop?
Most (90 percent) of my purchases are online and the remaining 10 percent are from when I’m on holiday. I find shopping on apps very convenient; I can click into them whenever I have a few minutes to myself, or even when I'm on the go. I'll browse on apps such as Moda Operandi quite regularly, it's always good to stay in touch with what's new.
How do you usually get ready for a red carpet event?
I try to not overdo it with preparations as I find it time-consuming and draining. Worse of all, after all that fuss, I’ll be too tired to enjoy the party. I don't have a typical ritual as I really prefer to just minimise my prep time. I’ll do my hair and make-up simultaneously to save time too.
Hong Kong's social season is starting soon—do you have most of your red carpet looks ready?
For me, the key is to buy dresses that I like and suit my body shape whenever I come across them. I never ever look for a dress or an outfit just for an event, as I'll likely make a bad choice out of desperation.
There are also simply fewer choices when done last minute. The best part of shopping online nowadays is that I can pre-order a lot of things online. Trunkshows on Moda Operandi start just a few days after the collections debut during fashion week, and I'm able to shop all the pieces right off the catwalk.
