The collaboration that brings "raging mechanics" to your wrist

It is well documented that watchmaking and motorsports have long had affinities for each other. After partnering with racing tire maker Pirelli earlier this year, Roger Dubuis is now collaborating with Lamborghini Squadra Corse—the Lamborghini division specialising in motorsports.

To kick off this partnership, Roger Dubuis is releasing the Excalibur Aventador S, which will come in two versions. Both watches will feature a 45mm case and will be powered by the all-new specially developed Duotor calibre inspired by the Lamborghini Aventador S engine.

Where the two watches differ is in color schemes, materials used and availability.

The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Aventador S “Giallo Orion” features yellow accents, a case made of multi-layered carbon composite and a limited run of 88 pieces. The Excalibur Aventador S “Arancio Argos” bears orange accents, has a limited run of only 8 pieces and uses a C-SMC composite, based on the same technology used for Lamborghini cars, for both the case and movement bridges.

The RD103SQ movement, called the Duotor, was built entirely from scratch and features the manufacturer’s first ever deadbeat seconds complication.

It will look familiar to watch aficionados, as its design is derived from Roger Dubuis’ quadruple-balance wheel Quatuor movement. The double balance wheel is inclined, supported and highlighted by holders shaped like triangular wheel suspension assemblies. Engine strut bars distinguish the calibre by revisiting the iconic Roger Dubuis Astral Skeleton principle.

It is also worth noting that this new movement will be used exclusively in watches made in collaboration with Lamborghini during their five-year partnership.

The 88-piece limited edition Excalibur Aventador S “Giallo Orion” will set you back $185,000 (HK$1.45 million) while the eight-piece Excalibur Aventador S “Arancio Argos” will cost $205,000 (HK$1.6 million).
