SS21 Fashion Week Correspondent Declan Chan's Top 5 Most Anticipated Moments
Fashion Month is upon us again, but the shows for this spring-summer 2021 season will be different to say the least. With editors and buyers around the globe unable to flock to the fashion capitals and governments clamping down on social distancing rules (London announced a six-person limit to public gatherings the week of its Fashion Week), brands more than ever are having to think smart and think digital. Some luxury brands like Gucci and Saint Laurent have eschewed the schedule altogether, most contemporary brands have gone digital entirely, and what few power fashion houses that have still decided to host physical shows are having to seriously limit their guest list.
The success of this season's showcase is yet to be determined, but fortunately celebrated Hong Kong influencer Declan Chan is on the ground in Europe to document this journey on social media exclusively for Tatler Asia. Follow along for the good, the bad and the fashionable, but first, here are the top 5 things he's most excited for this season.
Raf Simons for Prada
September marks the debut of Raf Simon's first collection for Prada as co-creative director to founder Miuccia Prada, causing the show to be arguably the buzziest of the season. Simons helmed Calvin Klein until he left in December 2018, less than two years after taking up the post and was at Christian Dior before that. When the partnership was first announced after the February show, speculation abounded: Is Prada vying for a younger audience? How much of Simon's aesthetic will we see? Is Miuccia Prada grooming her successor? Loyal Prada and Simons fans like Declan hope for the show to answer many of these questions.
Traditionally showing in Paris, Valentino decamps to Milan this season, joining the fashion calendar of its home country, and will be showing both menswear and womenswear on the same runway. “In the current scenario, we need to make decisions in advance to protect our first resources, our people, and to allow our brand to remain relevant exploring alternative opportunities. This is why we feel that it would be more ethical to produce the new show in Italy, in Milano," says CEO Jacopo Venturini in a statement.

Matthew Williams for Givenchy
Following the trend of luxury houses attempting to appeal to a younger audience through streetwear talents, American designer and co-founder of 1017 ALYX 9SM, Matthew Williams was named creative director of LVMH-owned brand Givenchy in June this year, taking over for previous designer Claire Waight-Keller. This October marks his first show for the French Maison and fans are curious to see the tone Williams will set. "I believe his singular vision for modernity will be a great opportunity for Givenchy to write its new chapter with strength and success," says Sidney Toledano, Chairman and CEO of LVMH Fashion Group in a statement.

Fendi Before Kim Jones
Just weeks before fashion month, Kim Jones was announced as Fendi's new artistic director of womens ready-to-wear, haute couture and fur collections in addition to his role as artistic director of Dior Men. Jones replaces the late Karl Lagerfeld as Silvia Venturini Fendi's collaborator and is expected to bring his streetwear know-how and ability to generate hype products through choice collaborations as he did at Dior to the Italian brand. Jones' first show for Fendi will debut next spring and we're curious to see what Venturini Fendi will put forth in her last solo show.

"I'm actually most excited to catch up with my friends," says Declan. "I haven't seen them since March so I have to say this is what I'm most looking forward to." Beyond getting a first look at the following season's styles, Fashion Month is also always an opportunity to connect physically with industry friends dispersed around the globe.
