Stella McCartney’s new garments are made from Mylo leather, a new vegan and sustainable leather alternative made from fungi
Stella McCartney is the first in the world to introduce garments made from Mylo, a new vegan and sustainable leather alternative made from mycelium—the vegetative part of a fungus.
Unlike most vegan leathers that’s polyester-based, Mylo is entirely biodegradable. Developed by scientists and engineers from Bolt Threads, a modern day material solutions company that invents sustainable materials for companies, Mylo promises to be “soft, supple, and less harmful to the environment”, according to their website.

As the first luxury house to introduce garments made from Mylo, Stella McCartney will be introducing two Mylo garments that are 100% cruelty-free, including a black bustier top and a pair of matching utilitarian trousers. Inspired by the designer’s dichotomy of feminine and masculine features, the two garments showcase an experimental edge with a sporty, athleisure-feel that resembles the brand’s Summer 2021 and Autumn 2021 collections.
