Fashion insiders went crazy for the carpet, and now you too can experience the Argentine artist’s magical piece of art for Van Noten as it makes an ephemeral appearance in Hong Kong

It’s not often you see society’s finest sprawled out on the floor, taking part in mock wrestling and snapping #selfies with carpeting as a backdrop. At least, not until Alexandra Kehayoglou’s majestic moss-inspired runway piece graced the the Qube at PMQ last night, as part of a touring exhibition featuring two sets of carpets plus runway footage.

The Argentine artist collaborated with Dries Van Noten’s Spring Summer 2015 fashion show last year, which was certainly hard to forget although the clothes were, as expected, beautifully designed and executed. Rather, people were taken aback by the presence of Kehayoglou’s extraordinary piece of art that graced the entire runway.

VIPs and socialites managed to preview the exhibition earlier this week, the unique piece now on display at PMQ, is the forty-eight metres long and three metres wide carpet that was designed for the show, her largest work to date. Woven and tufted entirely by hand over four weeks, it is so large that it’s divided into four parts measuring twelve metres each.

The carpet is meant to evoke moss and greenery and is actually made of pure Patagonian wool, perfect for Dries Van Noten’s Spring Summer 2015 collection that was inspired by summer festivals and made references to A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
