The weather in Milan might be foggy and chilly, but the Italian city is buzzing with the latest shows for Milan Fashion Week. Our fashion director Justine Lee is here to give you the inside scoop—first stop: Gucci.

Getting the invite 

The most original invitation goes to Gucci—the card actually houses a record with readings by A$AP Rocky and Florence Welch, complete with cover art by Coco Capitán. A$AP dictates an excerpt from Jane Austen’s Persuasion while Welch reads from Songs of Innocence and Experience by William Blake. Nostalgic, romantic and innovative—let's see if the Gucci show will be the same.

The man himself

The Gucci show consisted of over 100 looks for men’s and women’s. Models, gripping everything from javelins to canes, to Birkin-esque baskets with flowers, walked in an enclosed glass runway. But the true treat was getting to have a closer look at the clothes backstage. I even spotted designer Alessandro Michele (sporting a new haircut), here with French singer Soko.

Star-spotting

I also caught a glimpse of Tom Hiddleston, the face of Gucci’s tailoring line, backstage. I’ve joked about this with our February cover stars, Christopher and Victoria Owen, on set but don’t you think Hiddleston could definitely pass as Chris’ doppelganger?

Standout look

The models that arguably stole the show were those wrapped head to toe in a crystal chain mesh, which could be dressed up with a chiffon floor-length dress or dressed down with a ripped Gucci tank and distressed denim shorts.

A closer look at the nails and accessories from Gucci’s show today—dare we say we need to amp up our nail game for fall/winter?

Meeting Paula Cademartori

Squeezed in a quick trip to Paula Cademartori’s pop up store at Galleria Del Toro in between shows and had the pleasure of meeting the designer herself. The walls were beautifully dressed in pink silk while the carpet resembled star-intarsia patterns on her signature handbags.

Back to school with N°21

Alessandro dell’Acqua’s No.21 took us back to the good old days of school with varsity sweaters, oversized cardigans and tweed pantsuits. The feminine side came about through playful knit-under-slip-dress combos, and the footwear—Swarovski-studded sandals with ankle wrap details—pure perfection.
